ECHO Commemorates National Disability Employment Awareness Month

In recognition of the contributions and talents of a workforce that is too often overlooked, ECHO is celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month throughout the month of October. ECHO serves 205 individuals with disabilities, with 135 of them in employment programs in a variety of roles, including Dishwashing and Restaurant Services with Compass Group USA at the Oath Campus and Main Event Caterers; Packaging and Kitting with K2M and REHAU; Retail Services (Bagging and Tagging) with Salvation Army; Document Destruction with Loudoun County Public Schools; Auto Detailing with Reston Limousine; Grounds Maintenance with the Federal Aviation Administration, and; Mailroom Services with the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

As part of the SourceAmerica network of nonprofits, ECHO is part of a national effort to create employment opportunities and choices for people with disabilities. It’s one of almost 800 SourceAmerica-affiliated agencies committed to the same mission.  An estimated 24 million Americans have a significant disability, and roughly 80 percent are currently left out of the workforce.

“We’re building an Inclusion Economy™, one where people with disabilities are heard and hired,” said SourceAmerica COO Steve Krotonsky. “An estimated 80 percent of people with disabilities are currently left out of the workforce, and with the support of ECHO, we’re working to reverse that.”

ECHO is proud to be a part of this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
